8th Virginia Regiment Living History.

Nothing brings history to life like reenacting. An 8th Virginia reenactor group was started in 2021 by Jamie Rife and Chris Anders. The group has serious and committed leadership with decades of experience. The recreated 8th Virginia Regiment is a “campaigner” unit, meaning its members sleep in the open, prepare and eat period food, and immerse themselves in authentic Continental Army living (minus the casualties).

The recreated 8th Virginia Regiment is affiliated with The Continental Line, is growing quickly, and is looking for men and women who are up to the challenge. No experience is necessary. The regiment helps new recruits acquire the gear and clothing they need over time. The 8th Virginia participates in several events per year throughout the Mid-Atlantic and traditional western frontier regions of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.  The 8th Virginia also occasionally travels to certain events outside its normal operating areas by invitation.

If you are interested, you can follow the group on Facebook and reach out directly using the form below.

For the Record: The 8th Virginia Regiment history website and the 8th Virginia Regiment reenactor group are separate entities that coordinate closely.
2023 CALENDAR OF EVENTS
April 14-16 Battle Road at Lexington and Concord, Mass.
  • This is for those with the correct wool civilian militia kits. Here are the regulations.  The 8th Virginia has to be there in some numbers to be able to attend the big 250th re-enactment in 2025. It’s a long haul to Lexington and Concord but you get to be there where it all started!
May 5-7: Terror on the Frontier, 1777 at Fort Loudoun, Penna.
  • We are hosting this one at Fort Loudoun. It will be a full immersion event.
June 16-18: The Battle of Monmouth, New Jersey.
  • This is the big one this year. We must attend in large numbers.
Sept 22-24: The Eve of the Siege, Battle of Greenfield, 1781, at Endview Plantation, Virginia
  • This is a max push for a great campaigner adjunct event, hosted by our Continental Line sponsor unit, the 7th Virginia.
October 13-15: For Want of Ammunition at the Peter Wentz Farm in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
  • The 8th Virginia was in the Battle of Germantown.
November 11: "Allegheny Uprising: The Black Boys Rebellion of 1765," Fort Loudoun, Pennsylvania.
  • We are portraying the frontier rebels led by James Smith.
December 9-10: Crossing the Delaware at Washington Crossing National Park.

Note: There are several individual events scattered through the year such as the Prisoner of War event at Fort Frederick State Park over the July 4th weekend and the Morgan’s Cabin Living History event in October. We have also been invited to do the Memorial Day Parade in Sharpsburg in late May.
